Just came back from a supposedly Thai horror movie, the 'Dorm', with En En. Why did I say that it is a supposedly horror movie was because despite it being a story of a ghost. It actually relates to alot of human experiences.
Overall I was touched and almost teared at a few scenes. The story goes like this, a junior high school boy, Chatree, was sent by his father to a boarding school. With no friends nor family support, he was thrown to the unknown, with an eccentric dorm mistress, and a bunch of bullies. During this transition, he befriend the ghost-friend. The movies then translates how Chatree overcame his fears and became friends with the ghost. In the end, he did the ultimate by 'sacrificing' himself to help the ghost to be released from his daily tortourous routine of his foolish act few years back.
At first glance, horror addicts will flock to this movie, anticipating the same level of horror as 'The Ring', or 'Shutter'. But this is definitely not another movie merely to horrify. There is a beautiful plot behind it with experiences that shows what life is really about.
Funny that these lessons are 'taught' by the ghost in this movie.
1) Friends transcends color, race, religion or status. True friends stay by your side and support you however you may feel right now.
2) Family ties are important to each of us. Learn to treasure those close around us, and tell them 'I love you' through gestures or words.
3) What you see on the surface may not be the entire truth. Always ask, probe and find, before drawing that final conclusion.
4) Learning to trust, even if your head is telling another. Because miracles follow those who imagine, trust and believe.
5) Always go the extra mile for those close around you; for one day, they will do likewise to you.
A 110 minutes of movie able to touch me, teach me, show me, and guide me through my walk. I see life in a different light because of a simple movie. I will learn to love, care and protect those close to me.
(Catch teh movie before it bowed out from the screens)
